Chandigarh is the biggest example in India of experimental architecture. It hits you on the head and makes you think.
Jawaharlal Nehru, 1959.
One of the most significant and overwhelming characteristics of Chandigarh is that it is not a visibly « Indian » city. One feels this everywhere, in the details of the architectures that is dark and clean, and in the urban order that is rectilinear, neatly organized by sectors.
After 50 years from its construction, the photographs I made, want to document Chandigarh from a symbolic point of view. Just as for Le Corbusier, to me Chandigarh became a metaphor of lines and shapes to contemplate and the details of the structures disappear to reveal its essence.
